The man in the doorway
With those daunting eyes
That spoke to my soul
The ones that found a gap
Lifted my thoughts gone old
The man is the doorway
Could always see under the farce
Detect the pain in smiling eyes
Find story that tried well to hide.
He was a stranger to some
To many an old friend,
Yet you wouldn’t know him well
Even though your thoughts were his.
His story, like him was still unformed
Like those long hours he had strung along
He experienced it all but conceptualised but none
He managed to find beauty in all but one.
Little can one say how a muse is formed
It is as though some people are born
To become overpowering
To seize one up in waves overbearing.
Such is the man in the doorway
With that genuine smile
And many unsaid aspiration
Holding my unadulterated attention.
Some can help you see light
Many will show you the dark
It takes one in a million you’d find
That force you to see the contrasts.
The joy that one can bring,
The inspiration that some can ignite,
It takes a special person indeed
To show you light in the darkest of times.
